Sometimes, when it rains, it pours. I mean that in a good way in this case.
I had almost no posts here last week, because I was heads down, wrapping up a number of deadlines. For a freelance writer, that’s good, but it does mean that other stuff, like blogging, gets short shrift.
Also, I did something dumb: I volunteered. I’m being facetious, because I really wanted to volunteer. My younger daughter, Emily, is in the color guard for her marching band. Their home show is coming up soon, and silly fool that I am, I volunteered to do the program. That meant two things: I had to learn InDesign CS4 from scratch, and I had to remember everything I’d forgotten about working with printers.
And, of course, Borderlands came out last week. *sigh*.
The program design project was made slightly easier by being one-color (i.e., black and white). The design was a broadsheet layout (22×17), folded in quarters. One side would be a large poster of the logo, with all the photos. So the photos needed to be converted to black and white. More difficult was a large logo originally designed in Adobe Illustrator. Some parts were CMYK, so needed to be manually converted to gray scale.
At any rate, I was surprised how fast it all came together; it’s been a good decade since I did any desktop publsihing, back in the ancient days of Pagemaker. It was fun, but exhausting with all the other deadlines (you know, the ones that actually pay money.)
On top of all that, we travelled to southern California to watch Emily’s band perform in a band tournament. And this morning, I flew down to Austin for an AMD event.
So, more blogging soon, with more meaty stuff. As soon as I recover!

Well volunteering is always good; I’m sure something good will come out of it down the line. No one can fault you for volunteering and helping out your family, if that means less blogging, people will understand.

I’m from Austin. I hope our weather is good to you while you’re here. “It’s been crazy here.”
